Get Nighty in Ultimate X-Men

Okey-dokey,

Nightcrawler, to me, is the embodiment of Xavier's dream. He looks strange, so people hate and fear him because he is the unknown. Of all the X-Men, he would have much reason to hate and fear humanity right back. But no. Kurt Wagner is a light-hearted, optimistic character who sees the best in humanity. Even those who refuse to see the best in him. He is quick to joke, charming and caring. He loves being different, having learned to live the phrase of when life gives you lemons, make lemonade.

Religion has been an integral part of his character for a long time but the recent core writer who sought to cram the demonic-looking priest irony down reader's throats missed the core of his character. He fights with the X-Men for tolerance because he has no choice. He fights for his future and his children's futures. He fights because he believes in Xavier's dream and he wants a world where all God's children can walk down the street without image inducers and without fear.

His character would add so much to the Ultimate X-Men if he was portrayed as the strong character he used to be. Not the cliched irony he has become.

okay, if anyone objects to my citing this fanfiction, just say so. There's nothing offensive about it IMHO, but one never knows. Another thing I think I should say: I haven't read Ultimate x-men. I plan to get it soon. Are we all certain that Millar would do him justice, and that the "ultimate treatment" is something we'd want for Kurt?

Mr. Millar, If you decide to include Nightcrawler, please leave the religion and the sorcery out. I'm sick to death of it personally. Claremont has totally ruined NC in the regular titles with this "student-preist" nonesense.

that I think is spot on for Kurt. It is rather angsty, but that's because his love- life at this point really really sucks. What I liked was the incredibly detailed way the carnival life is fleshed out, with Kurt's interactions with his fellow circus performers and his boss, the hard work they had to do, the rivalries with other carnivals, and his step-brother starting to show signs of going psycho. I'd really would love to see his origin retold in this way , modern and unromanticised.

One thing I have always admired about this forum and the NC thread at Wizard is the lack of name calling and such. The focus was on what does or doesn't work for Nightcrawler as a character. And for the most part every side is given a voice.

Not to get anyone steamed, but remember not everyone will agree. And some people will not always be familiar (and some like me can't spell) with a character. But to say one type of religious set or race is unreasonable, is well, unfair. Don't base a perception based on a few bad apples as it were.

And the one thing I like about NC is that he isn't one-dimensional. There are many facets that make him contradicting and entriging. Such as, his devilish looks and his humanitarian soul. His deep belief in religion and his equally desire to live a life of a swashbuckler. So everyone will generally have one thing they like the most about him.

Hey Slar,I had trouble registering at Fandom way back(for some reason the 'submit' button doesnt work)in fact that was where I originally decided to register.Im glad I wasnt able to because I might not have been there to witness the birth of the lengendary Nightcrawler thread wich led me to meet all you cool Nightcrawler fans. wink

And as for Dazzler,she was never one of my favorites but I was really swayed by everyones reasoning and ideas as to why she should be in 'Ultimate'.Now I think she would be cool.Im hoping she "wins",along with Nighty ofcourse. smile

Hey Mark, I hope you're still reading this. First, excellent book so far. Even though there's only one issue out so far, I'm hooked. Second, this post is a collaboration between all of us Elfaholics at KC's Nightcrawler Forum, so this isn't just a vote from one, but many. We're not going to try to argue for two characters, here's our vote for one...

If you want reasons that Kurt should be included in Ultimate, just take a little trip over to the 1550 post thread at WizardWorld or over to the Forum that I run, dedicated to him, which already has over 1200 posts in a month's existence. And all of those posts (well, nearly all) are thought provoking or intelligent at the least, not just little posts to drive the total up. There's more reasons than you can shake a stick at, so here's just a few...

I speak for the Nightcrawler fans at that thread and my forum when I say this: If you do decide to include the Elf, please don't take him down the darker road or make him a stodgy religious character. The elf we all love is the fun-loving, swash-buckling, wise-cracking version. That is the core of his character -- a mutant that looks completely unhuman, but is more human than most of us.

Oh, yeah...I definitly agree. That was my initial response to the whole idea. If he was done well though, he would be great in Ultimate. A whole new generation of Elfaholics could arise. But only if he had the same personality. Otherwise he just wouldn't be Kurt...he'd be Gambit.

I happened to agree with a bunch of the other posters that I though Dazz would be cool in Ultimate too. I'll duck the rotten fruit now.

I really liked the ideas people had over there. I agree, I never much cared for Dazzler, but those posters were really on to something.

Yeah, it is the button...it just sat there and wouldn't do anything. That was the first place I tried to register too.
